THE new Morrisons supermarket scheme at Teignmouth could cause traffic chaos on the main road, councillors fear.
They are worried that the number of vehicles entering and leaving Broadmeadow will create big snarl ups on the already busy Bitton Park Road and Teignmouth Road.
Cllr Dave Matthews described the situation as 'madness', and predicted it would choke up Bitton Park Road because of the numbers of shoppers using the store, the fuel station, the sports centre, the sports pitches and the nursery.
There would also be many vehicles driving to the existing industrial and commercial units, including employees.
He told a town council planning committee meeting on Tuesday that traffic was the biggest issue with the £20million project. Cllr Matthews suggested that a radical traffic management scheme would be needed to try and minimise any congestion.
