PART of a busy Teignmouth road used daily by hundreds of schoolchildren has been barricaded off because an ancient wall is in danger of collapsing.

Worried residents alerted the authorities when the structure in Landscore Road started bulging.

Engineers checked the wall – believed to date back nearly 200 years – and it will have to be rebuilt.

The street is one of the main routes to Teignmouth Community School and is also a 'rat-run' for motorists trying to avoid the increasing snarl-ups on the main Bitton Park Road.
