Teignmouth signed off with a win in their last home fixture of this season.

Two early strikes gave them the upper hand in a game in which manager-elect Geoff Breslan took the reins.

With injury making Breslan unavailable for selection, retiring manager Adrian Banning let his successor have full control for this fixture.

Adam Fay gave Teigns an early lead, heading home Andy Breslan's free kick in the third minute, and two minutes later Fay doubled his tally Picking the ball up just inside Budleigh's half, he hit a superbly controlled volley that beat visiting keeper Evans from 45 yards.

Adam Hill nearly put Teigns three up but lost out in a one-on-one with Evans.

The hosts were in full control, with Andy Breslan and Craig Stonelake bossing the midfield, allowing Breslan's astute passing to open up the visitors' defence.

Despite their incisive play they could not add to their tally despite several chances created by wide men Tristan Dorey and Luke Liddle.

Budleigh kept pressing and Teigns had to thank Gavin Breslan for a goal-line clearance. However, they were rewarded just before half-time when Barker volleyed home at the near post, beating Teigns' keeper Darren Shrubb.

Back came the home team and, on the stroke of half-time, Dorey's pass opened up Budliegh's back four, putting Liddle clear, but his first time shot flew over the bar.

Teigns had to defend as their opponents came out of the blocks with purpose in the second half, but Alex Blackburn and Matt Boyer held firm at the centre of defence, while Terry Breslan and Gavin Breslan were always eager to turn defence into attack from their full back positions.

The introduction of Sam Chapman on 55 minutes proved a master stroke as Chapman broke clear down the right and drilled home a scorching shot into the far corner of Budleigh's net to restore Teigns' two-goal cushion.

Normally a goalkeeper, Liam Jones showed his versatility coming on as right back as Teigns rejigged their formation when Liddle left the field due to injury.

Again Gavin Breslan cleared of the line before Budleigh pulled a goal back through Saunders in the 63rd minute.

Shrubb had to be alert to race from his line and clear to keep his side in front, and commanded his penalty area well to snuff out any threat.

Stonelake was denied by a great save from Evans and Chapman turned the rebound over the bar, before Fay headed over from another Andy Breslan free kick as the hosts finished the game in style.

On Saturday, Teignmouth travel to Crediton for their penultimate away fixture of the season, kick-off 3pm.
