FAST food giant McDonald’s has been given the go-ahead for a new restaurant in Kingsteignton.

Planning officers at Teignbridge Council have given the green light for the famous yellow arches to go up on the site at the former Beefeater off Newton Road, pictured.

Submitted by McDonalds Restaurants Ltd, the application - reference 26/00677/FUL- sought permission for alterations to the existing restaurant, including replacement heating, ventilation and air conditioning.

And Teignbridge Council have granted planning permission.

‘The development hereby permitted shall begin before the expiry of three years from the date of this permission’, the council said.

The existing restaurant, formerly operated under the Beefeater brand and known as ‘The Grandstand’, closed in July 2024.

Objectors have claimed that the new restaurant will create additional traffic, smell and litter.

But McDonald’s says the new restaurant will bring ‘significant investment’ to the local area and deliver more than 100 full and part-time jobs.

‘We are excited about the opportunity to open a restaurant in Kingsteignton, expected to open late 2026’, a spokesperson for McDonald’s told the Mid-Devon Advertiser.

The new restaurant will not include a drive-thru, the multinational restaurant chain confirmed.
