THE new log picnic circle in a Teignmouth park was put to good use at the weekend.

More than 60 people turned up at Eastcliff on Sunday with their food and drink, and also enjoyed a day of free activities.

Teignmouth Community Choir performed environmentally themed songs, and other activities included a local history trail around the park, and a local food quiz for adults.

Teignbridge Council senior countryside ranger Sian Avon led a minibeast safari for children to see caterpillars, moths and other creatures living in the park.

'The event created a strong sense of community, and successfully raised awareness of the park and of the Teign Estuary Transition Group, which aims to help people move towards sustainable living,' said Helen Wharam, one of the organisers.

The day was coordinated by TRacy Rickard from the Friends of Eastcliff Park, and people were encouraged to travel to Eastcliff by foot or public transport.
