TEIGNBRIDGE’S free Sunday off-street parking scheme has been extended to Teignmouth, Shaldon, Dawlish and Dawlish Warren for the winter months, writes Sam Hall.
As of last Sunday, the seaside communities rejoined the scheme which sees all 35 of Teignbridge Council-owned car parks free of charge.
Introduced in 2011, the aim of the free parking is to boost local trade and cut the costs to motorists with the charges dropped in all urban and rural car parks excluding Dawlish, Dawlish Warren, Teignmouth and Shaldon through the summer months.
Notices will be put on pay and display machines from now until March 2016.
It does not apply to on-street spaces as these are operated by Devon County Council.
Teignbridge executive spokesman for economy, skills and tourism, Cllr Doug Hellier-Laing, said: ‘For residents, it means they can enjoy a day out with a few less pennies spent on parking in our car parks.
‘Hopefully, it will encourage more people to visit these areas over the winter months.’
