SOUTH Devon Railway is serving up a festive experience to savour a feast of fine local flavours this winter.
The historic heritage line has launched ‘All Aboard for Festive Dining’, a series of indulgent dining experiences designed to capture the magic of Christmas on the move.
From the glow of the steam engine to the sparkle of silver service, each journey combines seasonal cheer with the romance of a bygone era.
Passengers can choose from four deliciously different experiences.
In the lovingly restored 1950s Restaurant Car, diners can enjoy a Festive Ploughman’s Lunch brimming with local cheeses, chutneys and rustic breads or settle in for a Festive Afternoon Tea, complete with dainty sandwiches, scones and seasonal treats.
For those seeking something truly special, the luxurious 1925-built Pullman Car ‘Lydia’ - Winston Churchill’s former dining carriage - offers a taste of first-class luxury with a Pullman Festive Afternoon Tea or the Pullman Christmas Lunch, a sumptuous multi-course affair celebrating the best of West Country produce.
Every menu features fresh, locally sourced ingredients and every window reveals a winter postcard scene of the River Dart and rolling Devon hills.
Ernie Elsworth-Wilson, General Manager of South Devon Railway, said: ‘There’s something magically evocative about steam travel at Christmas; the sound, the scent, the sense of occasion.
‘Our festive dining trains bring together everything people love about this season: great food, local hospitality, and the joy of slowing down to enjoy the journey.
‘It’s the perfect way to celebrate with family, friends, or colleagues.’
With tickets already selling fast, guests are encouraged to book early to guarantee their seat at the most atmospheric table in Devon.
Festive Dining experiences run throughout December.
