AFTER an appeal in the Teignmouth Post, a pensioner whose wheelchair was stolen and then dumped has been given a new machine.

A donation from an anonymous resident enabled a replacement to be quickly sourced.

Evelyn Middleton, 90, was left housebound when her wheelchair was taken from the Parson Street flats where she lives. It was found abandoned on The Den and, owing to a mix-up, was sent to the tip because it was believed to be damaged.

PCSO Liz Francis, who took up the case, thanked the donor for the generous gesture, saying: 'Evelyn is thrilled to bits with her new chair. She found it to be awful stuck in the flat and is glad to be able to get out and about again to shops and medical appointments.<
