It’s Panto time in Teignmouth – Oh yes it is!
What better way to spend that confusing time between Christmas and New Year than to experience the hilarious panto offering by the Teignmouth Players.
Sleeping Beauty written by well known local panto writer, Amy Burton-Smith, will be performed live at Pavilions Teignmouth from December 28 until January 1 and promises lots of interactive fun for all the family.
This year the show looks to build on the team’s previous successes and will include some amazing choreography from Carmen Louise with a dazzling set built by Paul Lewis and David Warren.
The cast is exceptional with Andy Killen (Teignmouth’s Baldrick from the Player’s Blackadder production this summer) taking the role of Dame Trotty Tumkin, Teignmouth’s Nursie (Laura Wilson-Back) as Queen Veruca and Teignmouth’s answer to Sally Bowles (Emma Firth) as the Prince.
Together with local panto favourites, such as Karen Allen, Gavin Smith and Piran Wills bringing incredible humour, you can be certain of a great night (or afternoon) out.
The show offers something truly special and has a traditional style panto at the core with some modern touches.
You can expect all the classic routines with the added flair of a UV dance (designed by Jane Branch) plus, for something really different, Hayley Buckley – from Ice Pole at Pyramid Studios, Torquay – has designed an aerial hoop routine which will be performed by Becca Smith.
Director, Amy Burton-Smith, says: ‘The theme for this year is ‘Everybody Sparkles’.
‘Each person from the front to the back of stage deserves to shine and it has been a real team effort.
‘This year, with people finding finances harder, I want to ensure that value for money is top of the list.
‘I want every member of the audience to come out of the Pavilions feeling that they have had the best time ever and that we have given them everything we’ve got, so we are running at 110% effort”.
Amy offers her apologises to anyone who experiences Rick Astley as part of this performance!!
The preparations for the show also involved the formation of the Sleeping Beauty Knitting Club, an innovative idea where people from around the country responded to a request for help in producing ‘the amazing growing hat’ but you will need to go the show to see the results of their efforts.
The players’ Roger Smith adds: ‘This has been a collaborative production in that other local societies have helped with the production in providing some costumes, props, set bits and chaperoning and the Teignmouth Players would like to offer their very grateful thanks and hope that in these strange times we can all work together again in the future.
‘The matinee performances are almost sold out so book quickly if you fancy a night of panto fun.’
