THERE’S a Wonderland experience to be found at the South Devon Railway (SDR) at Buckfastleigh and Totnes this week. The popular tourist attraction has a busy, family-centred Easter planned with a host of fun activities and some great value prices too.

Over the Easter weekend until April 10, the railway is hosting a Family Fun Weekend when visitors will have free entry to the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, which is adjacent to the railway’s Totnes Riverside station, and Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies, next to the station at Buckfastleigh, when they buy their train tickets.

Children will be able to enjoy an Easter Egg Hunt around the extensive site at Buckfastleigh station, there will be face painting, a fabulous children’s entertainer and lots of family activities all weekend.

Then, curiouser and curiouser, on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 11-12, the Mad Hatter’s Travelling Tea Party is coming to the South Devon Railway for the first time. Visitors can meet the peculiar inhabitants of Wonderland, enjoy the Hatter’s favourite cakes, and help Alice solve the Hatter’s riddle to bring herself, and everyone on the train,

home from Wonderland!

General manager, Ernest Elsworth-Wilson, said: ‘We are really looking forward to Easter! There’s so much going on and we are sure that families will have a fantastic time with us.

‘We know that finances are difficult at the moment for everyone, so our Family Fun Weekend, with free entry to our neighbouring attractions at Dartmoor Otters & Buckfast Butterflies and the Totnes Rare Breeds Farm with every train ticket, will provide a really good value full day out – and there’s loads more to see and do all over the railway.

‘The Mad Hatter’s Travelling Tea Party is going to be really enjoyable too. Everyone on the train will be invited to participate by guessing the Mad Hatter’s peculiar riddle, which will help us all learn how to get home from Wonderland. It’s the first time we have presented this and we’re really looking forward to it. I hope lots of people will dress up as their favourite Alice in Wonderland characters too!’
