POWDERHAM Castle was the venue for an 'outstanding' evening of entertainment that raised nearly £1,000 for Shaldon-based arts charity The Helen Foundation.

Words for Voices is an original and highly professional group that presents a mixture of seasonal poetry, dramatic readings and music in venues across south Devon, to benefit a wide range of charities.

'In the iconic setting of the James Wyatt music room, the sell-out audience were royally entertained to a feast of seasonal readings and music, from medieval carols to Carol Anne Duffy's intensely moving poem about the 1914 Christmas truce,' said Helen Foundation trustee Roger Kirk.
