A FOUR-day festival of fine art organised by the son of famous, and controversial Plymouth artist Robert Lenkiewicz kicks off in Teignmouth next month.

Reuben Lenkiewicz, who has a gallery in the arts quarter, said it had long been his aim to bring together the most talented artists working in the south of England.

‘The event is for both the serious art collector and the general public, in a beautiful setting at the busiest time of year.

‘I do not believe that high art only belongs in the cities such as London. The South West has a history of important artists. From Sir Joshua Reynolds to Barbara Hepworth.’

Reuben added there would be a variety of the highest quality paintings available at the festival, and visitors encouraged to meet the artists.

Among the displays would be original paintings by his father.

The broadcaster Judi Spiers, is the official patron for the festival, and will be interviewing Reuben Lenkiewicz about his famous dad.

‘This is a hugely positive step to help put Teignmouth on the map for fine art,’ Reuben declared.

‘Teignmouth has been making amazing strides with the arts quarter which, among others, has myself, the TAAG centre, Laura Wall and Voyage in residence.

‘We have worked hard to offer collectors, visiting tourists and the community a new experience.

‘The festival will also bring together the best young artists from the area’s sixth-form and higher education colleges in a competition, and their works will also be exhibited at Bitton House.’

The festival, which is supported by the town council, runs from August 2 to 5.
