THE Ashburton section of the Dartmoor Search and Rescue group was called in to help South West Ambulance Service Trust (SWAST) to extract a seriously injured 29-year-old moto cross rider from a quarry in the Sandygate area north of Kingsteignton, near Newton Abbot.

A team Land Rover and several team members assisted the BASiCS doctors and SWAST personnel in moving the casualty across difficult ground to the land ambulance, yesterday, Sunday.

The team was stood down at 9.40pm.

Volunteer rescue team members are on-call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The team relies on over 90 per cent of charitable donations from members of the public to carry out this essential rescue service.
