AN HGV vehicle has crashed into the Grade II listed Newbridge at Holne forcing its emergency closure from 8am tomorrow morning (Wednesday).

The historic bridge between Ashburton and Two Bridges, which dates from 1413, was struck by the vehicle yesterday (Monday), pushing out the bridge parapet.

The closure is needed to rebuild a damaged three-metre section of the bridge parapet. Scaffolding is being put in place on the structure.

The bridge over the River Dart is expected to be closed for around a week while repairs are carried out.
