Kingskerswell C of E Primary School community raised money to fund a defibrillator machine that could be kept in the school should it ever be needed.
Amy Vine, the school business manager, worked with parents and children to raise £1,000 to buy a defibrillator machine.
Amy said: ‘The fundraising was so successful that not only did they raise enough money to fund the defibrillator, they were also able to donate £660 to the British Heart Foundation which is an amazing charity!’
The school held a ‘Dress Red’ day where children donated £1 and came to school dressed in red. Daisey Johns raised a huge £55.
The school received large donations from families who believed having a defibrillator for the school, for personal reasons, was very important. This was a huge school community effort which raised around £450 on the day.
Amy said: ‘Alongside several parents, I arranged a sponsored 5k walk from Goodrington to Torquay. The children were really excited to be part of this rewarding challenge and understood the importance of the walking, being active and keeping fit.
‘They raised £450 in sponsorship money and every child received a medal and certificate which was awarded in a whole school assembly.’
A GoFundMe Page brought in more donations from the local community.
Local businesses, Supa Roofing & Power Tools Ltd and Educated Recruitment each donated £100 towards the fundraising which was really heart-warming.
The total raised was £1,650.
Kingskerswell C of E Primary School wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone in the community who supported and contributed towards the fundraising for the defibrillator and British Heart Foundation.
Amy added: ‘Raising awareness and expressing the importance of having the defibrillator machine is key. The fundraising was easy and fun and has had a big impact on our school.’
