A HOST of charities have benefitted from the hard work of children at a Teignbridge primary school.

The Year 6 youngsters at Blackpool C of E Primary School in Liverton were congratulated for their efforts at a special awards event.

The children took part in the Blackpool Spirit Award, a programme designed to help them develop into confident, compassionate, and responsible young people.

Part of that programme saw them raise £2,669 for various charities through their role as Courageous Advocacy Champions.

For this, they chose a charity to support and worked hard, planning and organising events, managing fund-raising activities and using their creativity and teamwork.

The money raised went to charities including Animals in Distress and Jay’s Aim, which delivers defibrillators and training, which both send representatives to the ceremony and gave a speech on how the children’s efforts had helped.

Also to benefit were the Seaway Trust, Elm Wildlife Trust and Guide Dogs.

Lisa Harvey, Spirit Lead, said: ‘We are incredibly proud.

‘Throughout the award, the Year 6 children have shown outstanding commitment and enthusiasm across a wide range of challenges.

‘They’ve taken active roles within the school community, built connections with the wider local area, participated in healthy activities, explored new hobbies to support their mental wellbeing, and taken positive steps to protect the environment.

‘They also embraced independence during their residential experience, rising to every challenge with maturity and resilience.

‘Every single one of our them has worked incredibly hard, not just to complete the award, but to do so in a way that truly reflects its values: kindness, courage, responsibility, and service to others.

‘It has been a joy to watch them grow in confidence, support one another, and make a real and lasting difference to their school and community.

‘We believe it’s a great example of young people making a positive impact both inside and outside the classroom.’

The scheme aims help them become more independent, engage with the local community, and raise money for charity through creative and enterprising projects.
