A YEAR 12 student at Newton Abbot College has scooped a second prestigious royal award for her good works.
Louise Endean made the trip to St James’ Palace in London to collect the coveted Diana Award in recognition of her tireless voluntary work.
During her visit, Louise met other recipients from all over the world before watching presentations by Prince William, Prince Harry, and Tessy Ojo, the chief executive of the Diana Award.
The Diana Award was founded as a legacy to Diana, Princess of Wales’ belief that young people have the power to change the world for the better.
Since 1999 it has recognised more than 45,000 ordinary young people who have made an extraordinary difference to their community.
The award is presented to outstanding individuals whose work has shown compassion, kindness and service.
Louise was awarded the accolade after her work with the local community, volunteering with the free online counselling service Seven Cups of Tea.
She has regularly supported young people, covering areas such as LGBT issues, bullying at school and offering general advice to those in need.
The award winner also volunteers for Help for Heroes, regularly visiting its Plymouth recovery centre for injured veterans where she offers company and a listening ear when required.
Louise’s first Diana Award was presented to Newton Abbot College’s anti-bullying team, of which she was a member.
The college was chosen as a national showcase school for its anti-bullying work in 2016. Louise’s train tickets for the event were generously donated by Great Western Railway which has supported the college’s anti-bullying work over the past few years.
Louise was thrilled to have been so publicly recognised for her efforts.
‘It still hasn’t really sunk in. I have already been speaking to the Diana Award about future volunteering opportunities – and it was absolutely amazing to receive the award,’ she said.
She added: ‘Newton Abbot College has a strong anti-bullying and volunteering culture – and to be able to continue the work I have been doing and branching out into new areas has been brilliant.’
