Children from Wolborough Primary School, Newton Abbot, took part in a May Pole Dance and crowning of the May Queen.

Newton Abbot Town Development Manager Sally Henley said: ‘I was delighted to hear from Wolborough School earlier in the year. The fact that the children were dancing round the Maypole this year is a wonderful reminder that things are ‘back to normal’!

‘Several years ago I remember hearing that Wolborough school carried out this lovely traditional event within the school grounds and felt that it would be wonderful to share this more widely.

‘Over the years we have therefore been treated to this colourful display which usually takes place in Courtenay Street with the clock tower as a backdrop.’

I thought that it might be a good idea to ring the changes this year and suggested the Market Square as a venue. It will be great for the retailers and traders there to witness this spectacle. The Mayor and I have been invited to attend as usual and we are very much looking forward to joining the children at the school afterwards.
