MUSIC sensation Craig David gave students a special musical treat this afternoon at Coombeshead Academy, Newton Abbot.

The event, hosted by Radio 1 DJ Dev, gave students an insight into the star’s career by asking him a series of questions and listening to what Craig and his manager Colin Lester had to say.

After the Q&A session, the 7 Days and Fill Me In singer took to the stage to perform in front of more than 200 students.

The secret spectacle was part of BBC Radio 1’s Academy workshops which kicked off yesterday ahead of the highly anticipated Big Weekend at Powderham Castle on May 28 and 29.

After the performance, Craig said: ’I am really grateful for the journey that I have been on.

’This has been a really beautiful experience.

’To come here and see so many young people enjoying the music and asking questions that were really en pointe was brilliant,’ said Craig.

He added: ’I had the same questions as a kid but didn’t have the opportunity to speak to anyone.’

He said that Devon is ’beautiful’ and is going to try and stay the night before he performs to get to know the area more and is hoping that the Earl will let him have a room at the castle.

It turns out that Craig is more Cornish than Devonshire as he prefers his cream tea jam first and cream second.
