POLICE carrying out an operation targeting the illegal use of e-bikes and e-scooters in Newton Abbot made an arrest after a rider attempted to evade them.

Officers from the Torquay Neighbourhood Support Team and Newton Abbot Neighbourhood Team were on patrol on Sunday, August 9, as part of Operation Leapstring when they spotted a man riding an e-bike near the Quay end of the cycle track.

When approached by uniformed officers, the rider fled, but was detained further along the track by plain-clothes officers.

He was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. Officers found cash, drugs and scales during a search.

A subsequent Section 18 search of his home uncovered further drugs.

The e-bike was also seized.
