WINDS of up to 70 mph and heavy rain have prompted two Yellow Warnings of poor weather over the weekend.

Teignbridge residents have been warned that very strong winds could lead to disruption on Saturday from 6am through to 9pm.

The other warning, for periods of heavy rain covers from Midnight tonight (Friday) to 2pm on Saturday.

A Met Office spokesperson said: ‘A belt of very strong and possibly squally southerly winds will develop on Saturday morning with gusts of 60-65 mph, perhaps 70 mph on exposed coasts and hills.

‘The winds will become more westerly during the afternoon and gradually ease across England and Wales. However they will remain very strong across Scotland and Northern Ireland into the evening, with possible gusts around 75 mph across the Western Isles.

They added: ‘Further spells of heavy rain are expected during Saturday morning, clearing during the afternoon.

‘An additional 20-30 mm can be expected widely with 40-60 mm across higher ground, possibly 80 mm in the wettest places.

‘Strong winds are likely, with potential for leaf fall to slow drainage and so exacerbate flooding in places.’
