A DOG kennels at Denbury is looking to expand as it submits an application for new block at its site.
Submitted by Cary Kennels, the application - reference 25/01899/FUL - is seeking permission to construct an additional building for 22 individual dog kennels.
The new kennel block has been designed to match the appearance of the existing kennels on site, as well as other rural buildings in the surrounding area.
It will consist of a single storey, only, keepig the ridge height as low as possible to minimise any adverse visual impact.
Forty of the existing sixty kennels at Cary Kennels are used for specialist, long-stay boarding, with an average of six to eight weeks stays.
The remaining twenty kennels are used for general boarding.
The proposed 22 kennels would be used for specialist, long-stay boarding.
The design and access statement for 25/01899/FUL says that the proposal offers some ‘further employment benefit’.
‘The proposed new building will make efficient use of an under-utilised on-site area that is protected from view by a mixed-species tall boundary wall’, the statement says.
‘The design has taken due regard to functionality as well as local vernacular and the advice given at pre- planning consultation’, the statement adds.
‘The site access route does not pose a risk to accidents and will remain unaltered.
‘The development is considered compliant with the policies identified within the Teignbridge Local Plan (2013–2033) and the emerging Teignbridge Local Plan (2020–2040)’, the statement goes on to say.
Teignbridge District Council are due to make a decision on the application by January 16, 2026 at the latest.
