TELEVISION and film, along with the opening of the new South Devon highway, are expected to boost tourism in Teignbridge, experts are forecasting.

Latest figures from Visit South Devon reveal that 2015 was a bumper year for tourism with visits to the organisation’s website up by 20 per cent on 2014.

Combined with day trips and overnight stays, Visit South Devon is predicting that tourism in the South Hams and Teignbridge could contribute even more to the local economy than it did in 2014, when tourism in Teignbridge alone brought in more than £250 million and sustained ten per cent of all jobs.

This year is anticipated to be another strong one, helped by the positive impact of TV and film.

The film about ill-fated Teignmouth round-the- world yachtsman Donald Crowhurst, starring Colin Firth and Rachel Weisz, is due for release later this year.
