ANTI-NA3 campaigners were dealt a severe blow when councillors approved outline planning permission for 450 homes on the outskirts of Newton Abbot.

Despite the application getting the go-ahead on Tuesday, vocal support for the plans from councillors and members of the public alike, was noticeably shortcoming throughout proceedings.

Potential legal challenges and claims of ‘inaccurate’ reports dominated discussion, while complaints about the absence of council leader Gordon Hook, and portfolio holder for climate change, Jackie Hook, were heard after proceedings.

The new homes are set to be built at Langford Bridge farm. The site falls within Teignbridge’s Local Plan for development. Employment space, local shops and offices were all given the nod as part of the proposals.

The application is a separate set of plans to the 1,210-home scheme submitted by the Rew family.
