THE controversial scheme to build 165 new homes on greenfields on the outskirts of Teignmouth has been pulled – for now.

Developer Waddeton Park Ltd has withdrawn the planning application for the housing estate between Shepherds Lane and the Coombe Valley estate, which objectors maintained would put more pressure on roads, schools, medical practices and other services.

Ward councillor David Cox hailed it a victory for people power, but warned they would have to be prepared for further attempts to develop the fields in the future.

Tim Baker, from Waddeton Park, admitted the two-year battle to try and get the project off the ground had cost them tens of thousands of pounds.
