Sean Brogan, of Coombe Vale Road, Teignmouth, writes:I was saddened to read of the cuts in care to the provision for the elderly by Devon County Council. These day centres provides a  lifeline, that element of community care which helps prolong an interest in life and life itself for our older citizens. They provide a place to meet friends and, for some, an escape from loneliness. Cllr John Hart, leader of the county council, stated that he was 'forced' to make these cuts for the good of the country. This nonsense was exposed when Prime Minister Cameron announced that 'we live in a rich country' and that 'money is no object'. This is when they left the flooded people in Somerset alone for weeks,  having cut the budget to the Environment Agency by 40 per cent. Local councillors of this blue and yellow coalition, fearful of losing votes, are  muttering various  platitudes declaring that  they 'would look into it' and 'do their best' to help as they continue to be members of a coalition whose only interest seems to be to move wealth to the already rich from the most vulnerable. I was on the last demonstration when we marched to save Beechcroft – I hope this will be repeated. I would urge readers to telephone, write, email their representatives. Perhaps some of those who claim to care would resign and stop being supporters of this uncaring regime.
