WHO needs Easter chicks when you can have Easter cygnets instead.

Three little bundles of cute grey fluffiness, the latest off-spring from the famous black swans of Dawlish, are currently raising smiles in the town with their antics in and out of the water.

Hatched around two weeks ago, and under the watchful eyes of mums and dad, the youngsters have been finding their water wings and exploring every leaf and blade of grass on land.

The latest arrivals to Dawlish were welcomed at the town council’s latest meeting.

Town mayor Cllr Alison Foden said: ‘Three beautiful cygnets have been born to our black swans, the trees are starting to blossom, and with the Vernal Equinox and the clocks changing, our days will become longer and brighter.’

At the same meeting she praised the work of Helping Dawlish saying the town owed them all a ‘huge thank you.’

Cllr Foden also said that due to restrictions the annual meeting had been moved to May 26, from April 7.

She looked forward to the Easter break and the lifting of lockdown restrictions on April 12.

‘This is a spring of hope – stay safe,’ she urged the people of the town.
