YOUNG chefs in Dawlish College have again proved their expertise in the kitchen at this year’s Rotary Young Chef competition.

Expert judges Malcolm Protheroe, chef/proprietor at the Anchor, Cockwood, and Matthew Tilt, chef/proprietor at the Rodean, Kenton praised both the standard of cooking and the tidiness all the competitors.

They said this was the best group of young chefs they had seen in recent years.

It was a close contest, but eventually the winner was declared as Joni Conway, with runner up Henry Wilson.

All competitors received certificates and prizes and Joni received a trophy presented by Dawlish College Head Teacher Sam Banks.

Joni will now have the opportunity to go through to the next round at Rotary District level next year.

Dawlish Water Rotary Club Youth Chairman Stephen Allen said: ‘We were delighted to see the young chefs of Dawlish College compete so keenly and proficiently in this prestigious Rotary competition. It’s a great way of encouraging the development of their cookery skills.’

Dawlish College Food Technology teacher Tara Prudden added: ‘We are delighted to share the outstanding success of Dawlish College students in the Rotary Young Chef Competition.

‘The creativity, skill, and professionalism demonstrated by our Year 9 and Year 10 students were truly inspiring, showcasing techniques and knowledge gained from previous lessons in a real-world setting.

‘Congratulations to the five talented students who represented the college so brilliantly – your hard work and passion shone through every dish.

‘We also extend our heartfelt thanks to the Judges and Dawlish Water Rotary Club for providing this fantastic opportunity and for supporting our young chefs in developing their culinary skills.

‘Well done to everyone involved – you have made Dawlish College proud.’
