DEVON'S transport supremo has pledged that the Teign estuary cycle/walking trail will happen.

The project was first mooted a decade ago and there were fears it was being dropped.

But Cllr Stuart Hughes, county council cabinet member for transport, told this newspaper: 'It will definitely happen. I have been quite impressed by the support for the route.'

He was speaking after the cabinet voted without dissent to progress the trail from Kingsteignton to Teignmouth, then on to Dawlish.

Cllr Hughes said at the cabinet meeting at county hall on Wednesday that there were considerable cost and technical challenges. They were determined to deliver it, but it would take time.
