TRAVELLERS who pitched up in Newton Abbot’s Cricketfield Car Park have left the site after they were served notice by Teignbridge Council, which runs the car park.

Earlier on Monday there are reports it had been closed off to the public but the car park is now fully open.

People took to social media to spread the news of the car park’s closure.

‘Where are we supposed to park then if we need access to that area?’ asked one person.

‘I hope they’ll be refunding people who have paid for annual passes then,’ said another.

‘They’re just travellers, chill out,’ added another.

A spokesperson for Teignbridge Council, which runs the car park, said: ‘We have served notice on the encampment currently at Cricketfield Car Park, and the legal process will now follow.

On Tuesday morning the spokesperson added: ‘The travellers have left Cricketfield Car Park now so we’ve cleared it up and emptied the bins etc.  So it’s all back in full use.’
