A KINGSTEIGNTON man must pay £3,000 to the man he left with life changing injuries in an unprovoked attack.

Jacob Luke Sawyer, aged 20, of Little Hayes, admitted he unlawfully and maliciously inflicted grievous bodily harm on Adam Richards.

South and West Devon Magistrates’ Court sentenced Sawyer to 26 weeks’ detention, suspended for 24 months. They ordered him to pay the compensation and £85 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service and £128 to fund victim services.

The court reported that the reason for the custodial sentence was because the victim sustained ‘severe life changing injury’ in what was an ‘unprovoked attack while in drink.’

The court also ordered Sawyer must abstain from drinking alcohol for 120 days.
