A HORROR film fam allegedly abused a 15-year-old girl after showing her his collection of movie memorabilia and plying her with drink.
Daniel Kelly invited the girl to his home Newton Abbot after sending her a series of increasingly sexualize Facebook messages over more than a month.
She alleged that he kissed her on one visit and went on to get into bed with her during a second a few days later. She says he kissed her again, touched her breast, and put her hand on his groin.
The incidents happened in 2011 and she told friends at the time but did not go to the police. She made disclosures during treatment after a suicide attempt several years later and allowed medical staff to contact the authorities.
She remained reluctant to make a formal complaint until she learned from Kelly’s ex-wife that he had been jailed in 2017 for earlier sexual assaults on girls aged 14 and 15.
Kelly, aged 40, formerly of Jetty Marsh Road, Newton Abbot, but now of Torquay, denies two counts of sexual assault.
He says there was no inappropriate contact and he was trying to support the girl.
Mr Peter Coombe, prosecuting, said Kelly invited the girl and a boy of the same age to his home to play computer games, watch television and drink.
His first attempt to kiss her was in the kitchen ands the second was in a laundry room where he kept his collection of horror movie memorabilia.
This time he also touched her on the bottom.
She left the house but returned with the same boy two days later, when he told her she could use his bed.
She did so in the belief he would sleep on a sofa, but instead he joined her in bed.
Mr Coombe said he kissed her, slid down one bra strap, and touched her breast. He took her hand and put it onto his groin.
She pulled her hand away but he told her he would like to have sex if she were 16.
He put his hand between her legs but stopped when she started crying.
Mr Coombe said: ‘She said it made her feel really scared and sick and that she had never even kissed a boy before.’
The girl told close friends at the time but did not go to police until late 2018 after learning from Kelly’s ex-wife about his convictions for sexually assaulting two other girls.
Mr Coombe told the jury that Kelly was convicted in 2017 of three offences committed against two girls in 2009 and 2010.
Earlier, Judge Peter Johnson, said the jury should not assume him to be guilty because of his previous convictions.
Kelly told police he had not assaulted the girl and said he was supporting her because she had problems at home.
He accepted that the Facebook messages were inappropriate but said he was a different person back then.
The trial continues.
