MAGISTRATES have imposed a restraining order on a Teignmouth man for causing a woman to fear violence.

Stephen Hamlyn, 50, of Kingsway, was given a community order and subject to electronic monitoring after pleading guilty to the offence.

He admitted sending hand written notes to the woman’s home, placed through her letterbox, and sending threatening messages by mobile phone, voice mail and Whatsapp.

He also went to her home address and workplace. 

Magistrates imposed the community order for Hamlyn not to enter parts of Kingsteignton. 

They also imposed a restraining order.

Hamlyn was ordered to pay a victim charge of £114 and costs of £85.

He will be electronically monitored for six months.
