A PRISONER who helped smuggle Spice and steroids into Channings Wood prison has claimed he was bullied into taking part by violent inmates.
Daniel Evans says he only agreed to hide the drugs because he had been stabbed three times while serving a four-year sentence for robbery at the medium security jail in Newton Abbot.
Evans, aged 34, of no fixed abode in Plymouth, admitted possession of Spice, testosterone, nandrelone, and trenbelone with intent to supply.
He also pleaded guilty to having a phone inside the prison on February 1, 2017, the same day as the drugs were found.
Mr Ali Rafati, defending, said Evans was put under pressure by other inmates to hide items which had been thrown over the perimeter fence in his locker.
He said he had been stabbed three times while serving a four year sentence for robbery, from which he was released on October 29, 2017.
He said he has been working with the probation service in prison since his release and said the sentencing judge would benefit from a report from those who have been supervising his licence.
Judge Graham Cottle released Evans on bail but warned him that an immediate jail sentence is the normal penalty for supplying drugs inside a prison.
