Councillors have elected not to support a housing plan in Highweek, Newton Abbot.
Last week Newton Abbot Town Council’s planning committee discussed the major application from Brimley Homes to build 28 homes on 1.72 hectares of agricultural land in Whitehill Road.
As well as the 28 new dwellings the proposal includes space for an open market and public open space.
Access to the site is proposed from the northern edge of Whitehill Road.
The town council based their decision on three factors: poor access to the proposed housing estate; increased pressure on parking in the area; and being took close to a Grade 1 listed building – the parish church.
