THE controversy over the proposed closure of the minor injuries unit at Teignmouth Hospital is hotting up.
There were angry scenes at a public consultation meeting at the Alice Cross Centre which was full, with many people unable to get in. There were also claims that two doctors had initially been prevented from speaking, until protests by the public.
But the medical authorities have hit back, and also denied there were any plans to close the hospital completely.
Three GPs from the Teign Estuary Medical Group – Drs Julian Squires, Clive Peirce and Tamsin Venton – in a letter to the Post emphasised that the acute medical beds would also be closing, with the loss of all nursing and medical staff and X-ray facilities.
