HANGING in its rightful place... Newton Abbot’s ever-growing Community Shed group has cause to celebrate recently, as they hung a hand crafted sign in their base of operations at the town’s library

The sign, which is secured the wall by a french cleat, was made by Newton Abbot Community Shed member Ollie Doughty.

‘It was nice to be asked’ Ollie said.

‘I didn’t know what to do in my first week here, but in the second week they said “we have a project for you!”

‘I made a similar style of sign when I went to Stover,’ Ollie added.

Ollie put his natural talent to good use, carving the letters into the wood, which was rescued from the tip and is thought to have been a part of a coffee table, by hand.

‘I wasn’t sure whether to use wax or varnish, like a clear wax or a clear varnish, but I went with the varnish in the end, it brings out the grain the wood really nicely.’ Ollie added.
