WHILE many orchards have been dug up or neglected, a group of enthusiasts have bucked the trend by creating a new community orchard for Teignmouth.
An area at the top north-westerly end of Eastcliff Park, off the Rowdens, was prepared by the volunteers and, on a rare warm and sunny winter morning, the trees were planted.
The venture, overseen by Teignbridge senior ranger Sian Avon, is the brainwave of the Friends of Eastcliff Park and Teign Estuary Transition, and members joined forces to dig the holes, hammer in stakes for the trees, and to mulch and put up rabbit-proof protectors.
