I CAUGHT up with controversial funny man Jim Davidson just as he was leaving a Welsh prison!

Before you get the wrong idea, the outspoken comedian was quitting the jail after carrying out some charity work with inmates.

But, during his ‘escape’ he still had time to chat to the Mid-Devon Advertiser about his show at the Princess Theatre, Torquay, on Thursday this week.

Jim said: ‘I love Torquay, I once did seven seasons in a row there.’

He is celebrating an impressive 40 years in showbusiness and when asked what he thought it was that still drew the crowds, he modestly replied ‘I am very good live.’

It is no secret that the father-of-five has been in the spotlight for his near-the-knuckle jokes which some find offensive.

‘Comedy has changed and it certainly shouldn’t offend people,’ he insisted, adding: ‘I believe this political correctness is b******s.’

In January 2014, Jim won the most entertaining and explosive series of Celebrity Big Brother.

During his time in the house he had a fiery clash with fellow housemate Linda Nolan over something her late husband Brian Hudson did in Frank Carson’s dressing room. And he hasn’t forgotten it.

He said: ‘I didn’t mind it at all once Linda left.

‘She started it anyway.’

He recalled: ‘It was the worst year of my life. I was arrested for sexual abuse allegations, which were not true, and then I was padlocked to Linda in the Big Brother House.

‘She didn’t like me and I didn’t like her, but I wish her all the best in her career.’

But it wasn’t just Linda that rubbed Jim up the wrong way in the house, former Apprentice star Luisa Zissman ‘got on his nerves’.

Jim admitted he wouldn’t mind returning to the Big Brother House for another series and would like to be in the house with Gary Busey, Julian Clary, Dappy and Christopher Biggins – who have all appeared in the show previously.

Talking about the current series of the reality TV show, Jim was less than impressed with the housemates, but defended Biggins, who had been kicked off the show for offensive behaviour and comments.

‘I know Biggins and I don’t think he could offend anyone – even if he had a machine gun in his hand!’

And, he wouldn’t mind taking part in I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.

‘You are not in a jungle, you’re in the back of a TV studio with a few pot plants dotted around, the crocs have tape around their mouths and the snakes are tame,’ he joked.

The former Generation Game host and prominent Tory supporter said he was thrilled with the outcome of the EU referendum.

‘I am very pleased,’ he cooed.

His next desire in the political world is to see Donald Trump jump behind the desk in the Oval Office and hover his finger over the nuclear button and watch the North Korea dictator Kim Jong Un do something in his trousers.

It was a very eventful and entertaining interview and next week’s edition of the Mid-Devon Advertiser will carry a review of the Torquay show.
