OUT in Teignmouth town centre on Saturday morning, Alan Rosewell suggested to his wife Anne: 'Let's go for a coffee.'
As they walked into Costa Coffee, in Bank Street, she was amazed to be greeted by 20 family and friends – her hubbie had arranged a surprise golden wedding celebration.
'She knew nothing about it, and we all tucked into coffee and cake,' said Mr Rosewell, a former railway man and WBB clay worker, who has raised many thousands of pounds for various charities over the years.
The couple met at a dance hall in Bristol, and it was love at first sight.
Mr Rosewell declared: 'I don't know where those 50 years have gone. Our secret of staying together is never going to bed on an argument. We have been very happy.'
