The spirit of Christmas has certainly arrived at Newton Abbot Rock Choir, with the singers raising £840 for two local charities – Devon Air Ambulance and Rowcroft Hospice.

The singers entertained both charities by performing a Christmas medley and a special rendition of Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah as they presented cheques to the charities at Avenue Church, Newton Abbot.

Said Rock Choir leader Richard Toomer: ‘My 100-strong Newton Abbot choir members have been busy raising money during their weekly rehearsals by selling cakes, tea and coffee. There is a tremendous spirit in the choir which is brought together through a real passion for singing in the local community.’

Rock Choir perform at many events throughout the year and they help raise money for local and national charities.

Rock Choir is the UK’s largest contemporary choir, with more than 25,000 members in more than 400 local communities.

There are no auditions and no requirements to read music or have any previous singing experience.
