FISH and chip shop owner Michael Papanicolau is battling with planners about an advertising sign on the roof of his eaterie.br>Teignbridge Council has told Mr Papanicolau he has to remove the triangular sign about Finn McCool's, in Regent Street, because it is not legal.br>However, he says the sign has been in place for more than three years and he has not received any negative comments about it.br>A Teignbridge Council spokesman said: 'National planning law means that this signage isn't legal, leaving us with no option but to ask for its removal. However, we would welcome a formal planning application for the sign and would be happy to hold off taking any further action while it was being considered.br>'While we appreciate that this may be frustrating for Mr Papanicolaou, we have no option but to follow the law. br>'This does underline the importance of people seeking advice in the first instance – we're always happy to help with guidance, which can avoid problems happening later on.'
