A PROMINENT Chestnut tree in a Newton Abbot park will be felled this week.

The tree, located in Baker’s Park, will be replaced during the next planting season, Teignbridge District Council (TDC) has said.

The council was advised to fell the tree after a recent inspection.

‘Unfortunately, it has become apparent during regular monitoring that this tree has been deteriorating over several years, and to ensure the safety of all park visitors, the tree now needs to be felled’, the council said.

The work will take place over July 24 and 25.

Teignbridge District Council are responsible for some 7,000 trees on its land, which are regularly inspected by professional arboricultural consultants.
