NEWTON Abbot Chess Club has had a ‘very successful’ 2024/25 season.

At its annual general meeting on Thursday, May 29, the club celebrated its members’ winning ways.

Members won three trophies in the Torbay Chess League and one in the Devon County Chess Association competitions.

And the county cup final is still to be played later this month.

The club has more than 30 members, spanning all ages and will re-open for the coming season in September.

‘The club has had a very successful 2024-25 season’, says Trefor Thynne, the club’s Joint Secretary.

‘New members, senior or junior, will be very welcome and details of how to contact the club and how to join can be found on the club website’ Trefor added.
