NEIGHBOURHOOD Policing Week is being marked across Devon and Cornwall, recognising the work of local policing teams and the relationships they build with communities throughout the year.
The national week of action celebrates the commitment of neighbourhood officers, Police Community Support Officers (PCSOs), and police staff who work closely with residents, businesses, and partner organisations to prevent crime, address concerns, and improve public safety.
Across the region, neighbourhood policing remains central to the approach of Devon & Cornwall Police.
Officers are embedded within communities, providing a visible and accessible presence while listening to local priorities and tackling issues such as anti-social behaviour, retail crime, and the safeguarding of vulnerable people.
Throughout the week, local teams are highlighting the impact of their work and the role they play in supporting communities across Devon and Cornwall.
Assistant Chief Constable Glen Mayhew QPM said Neighbourhood Policing Week provides an opportunity to showcase the vital role officers play in building trust and working alongside the public.
‘Neighbourhood Policing Week is an opportunity for us to highlight the vital role our officers play in building trust, listening to local concerns, and working side by side with communities to prevent crime and keep people safe,’ he said.
‘Policing is at its strongest when it’s rooted in relationships, and that’s exactly what neighbourhood policing is all about’.
Police and Crime Commissioner Alison Hernandez also praised the work of local teams, highlighting the importance of visible policing across communities.
‘Neighbourhood policing teams across the peninsula do an incredible job all year round to help keep our communities safe,’ she said.
She added that government funding through the Neighbourhood Police Guarantee has supported an uplift in PCSOs, with ringfenced funding now supporting neighbourhood officers who act as ‘the eyes and ears on the ground’.
Residents are being encouraged to engage with their local policing teams, find details of officers and priorities in their area, and sign up for community updates.
Information about local policing can be found via Devon & Cornwall Police – Your Area, while updates and alerts are available through the Community Messaging system, which allows residents to receive information about incidents and events in their area.
