MORE than £600 was drummed up at a charity cake sale and raffle in Newton Abbot last week.

The event, organised by Jemma Betteridge, saw £619 raised in aid of mental health charity YoungMinds.

People from all over flocked to Pure Elegance at Giovannis Hair and Beauty Salon in Union Street to grab a slice of cake and take part in the raffle.

Jemma, who works at the hair and beauty salon, chose to raise funds for YoungMinds after her nephew Aaron Tomline killed himself last year after suffering from an undiagnosed mental health condition.

He took his life less than 24 hours after being discharged from Torbay Hospital’s mental health unit.

And the fundraising doesn’t stop there – on April 1, Aaron’s mum Alexandra, dad Paul and sister Skye will be trekking 500 miles from Ansteys Cove in Torquay, where Aaron took his life, all the way to Minehead.
