Volunteers at RNLI Teignmouth had a busy week, with two lifeboat launches, a water based demonstration, carnival procession and fundraising efforts all taking place.

Teignmouth RNLI crew launched at 6.46am on Saturday, Julhy 30, following a request by Solent Coastguard after reports of calls for help were heard near hackney marshes, Newton Abbot.

Volunteer crew from Teignmouth RNLI launched both the Atlantic 85 class lifeboat and the Arancia and headed to the scene where they worked alongside crews from Dawlish and Torbay coastguard to search the area.

Devon and Somerset Police also used their thermal imaging resources to help. The crews onboard both lifeboats searched along the river Teign and its banks.

After extensive searches by the RNLI volunteers, and land-based search teams the search was called off and the lifeboat crew were stood down at 08.22am where they headed back to station, the volunteer shore crew then refuelled both boats, which were back on service ready by 9am.

l At 8.18pm on Monday, August 1, the volunteer crew were called out to reports of a person calling for help in water approximately 500m off the shore of Petitor Beach.

The volunteer crew from Teignmouth RNLI launched the Atlantic 85 class lifeboat and went to the person in difficulty.

The crew carried out a shoreline search between Long Quarry and Petitor beach, the last known location of the casualty.

Rescue Helicopter 924 from St Mawgan also helped in the search of the area.

While the search was going on, the casualty was found safely on the shore.

The crew were stood down and headed back to the station for the lifeboat to be refuelled and cleaned by the volunteer shore crew who were awaiting their return.

l Not ones to stand around the fundraising team at RNLI Teignmouth have also been keeping busy, helping to raise the vital funds needed for the volunteer crews to save lives at sea.

The team took part in the annual Teignmouth Carnival parade on Thursday, July 28, where they were also joined by RNLI mascot Stormy Stan who had great fun meeting with the crowds of people.

The fundraising team were also out bucket collecting on Sunday, July 31, collecting donations from the crowds watching the water-based demonstration that the volunteer crew put on in aid of Teignmouth Regatta week.

The crew from Teignmouth RNLI worked alongside RNLI Torbay and the RNLI Lifeguards to show how they would respond to various real-life scenarios, including paddle boarders in difficulty and an out-of-control boat in danger of harming swimmers.

The team on the ground collected a fantastic £369.44 from spectators.
