THE weather conditions did not deter the Court leet and Court Baron of the Manorial Borough of Newton Abbot from holding their Annual Search and Seal of Leather 2022

In bright sunshine the Courts held their Annual Search and Seal of Leather and visited six stores to check their quality of leather goods offered for sale

The mayor, Cllr Mike Joyce, and mayoress, Mrs Sue Joyce, led the procession from the Jolly Abbot public hostelry in East Street, Newton Abbot, to the first store to be checked – Austins handbags.

Joy Waterhouse, is the officer responsible for the checking of the quality of the leather goods offered for sale applied a Stamp of Approval

The portreeve, Carol Bunday, presented a pertificate, to be publicly displayed in each store stating that they’ Sell Merchantable Quality Leather Goods in The Manorial borough Of Newton Abbot’.

The next ceremony to be held is The Bread Weighing, on Saturday, April 6.

The stores visited were: 1 Austins’ handbags; 2 Austins’ Furniture; 3 Leonard Coombe saddlery; 4 Lucky Dip Belts; 5 Clarkes Shoes; 6 British Heart Foundation Furniture.
