WHEN the Bovey Tracey-Chudleigh Knighton road is closed at Bradley Bends from January to the end of March, it will not unduly affect the Bovey Tracey fire crew, it has been revealed.

A new housing development for Bovis Homes, along with employment units, are being built there and the road is to be closed to instal a new rising main, the re-building of a culvert under the road, along with the realigning and construction of a new section of carriageway.

Trades people and residents are not happy with the situation and there were fears the Bovey fire crew, which also covers Chudleigh Knighton and Chudleigh, would be affected by the diversions.

But Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Paul Slaven said the service was always consulted regarding road closures during housing developments.

‘In this instance we do not expect the response times to Chudleigh Knighton and Chudleigh to be adversely affected as the result of this closure.

‘The crew from Bovey Tracey often use the Bovey Straight A38 route, because it can be faster.

‘If they go the other way they have to go into part of the town and through a residential area, then along a narrower road,’ said Mr Slaven.
