TEIGNMOUTH Probus Club has celebrated its 40th anniversary with a special lunch and the publication of a booklet about its history.

The lunch was held yesterday at the Teignmouth Masonic Hall when the commemorative booklet was launched.

Guests included the mayor of Teignmouth, Cllr David Cox, the mayoress, Elizabeth Brown, the MP for Newton Abbot, Anne-Marie Morris, and historian Viv Wilson, who gave a film/slide show.

The club was formed on November 10, 1971. It meets in the same premises – the Richard Newton Hall – run by the New Road Area Community Association, where the first meeting was held.

One man who clearly remembers the inaugural meeting is Philip Gourd, then a member of Teignmouth Rotary Club.

He recalled that he helped form first Bishopsteignton Probus Club and then theTeignmouth Probus Club.
